Wine professional 2015

By January 19, 2015 , , , , , ,

Last Week I attended the wine professional trade fair at Amsterdam RAI. I tasted some interesting wines and spirits and also met some interesting people.

Amongst the highlights were meeting Miranda Beems who imports Hungarian wines and I tasted a good selection of her reds, whites and interestingly sparkling. I do like my Hungarian wines and it is always a treat to try some new ones. the sparkling wines were a revelation in their complexity and varied very much dependant on the varied dosage in each one.
Here in the Netherlands Hungarian wines are not so readily available in the shops which is a shame as people are really missing out on some fantastic wines.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Olaf Kerstens from Andre Kerstens who has an interesting selection of gins from micro distilleries such as Sacred Gin. A thank you to Olaf for demonstrating how to make a very tasty negroni with some of the wonderful spirits from Sacred. Olaf also sells a very interesting range of tonics from a Spanish company called Indi, which are worth trying out.

I also met the guys from Nice to Meat who have an excellent selection of meats including some very nice Wagyu direct from Japan. I found it difficult to stop sampling their wares every time I walked past the stall ( I made a pint of walking past it a lot!)

Here's a selection of some of the photos I took.
